Everyone asks for multiple chances
But I only give 2
The first one could be a mistake
but the second they mean it
This I've learned the hard way, see how people move
The way that they switch up when they don't think you’re looking
Like their apologies are rehearsed instead of sounding real
Two chances is enough to see their intentions
Enough to see if they slipped or if that is who they are
Not everyone deserves multiple chances
Some show their true colors the first time you meet them
Others will stab you in the back
But there's a few who genuinely don't mean it
Which is the complicated part
Now and then, you'll find someone who messes up
But you’re able to notice if they didn’t do it to hurt you
Those are the rare ones, they are the ones that learn
They are the ones that take my forgiveness as a free pass
To keep hurting me
But most:
Reveal themselves quickly
With their attitude
Their silence
And some by the way that they treat you thinking that you'll stay no matter what
But once you see it but wont be able to unsee it
“If you give a mouse a cookie he's going to ask for a glass of milk.”
If you give a person more than two chances they’re probably gonna ask for another
That how it goes
The more you give the more they take
Until your drained and questioning why did you let it get this far
People will get comfortable with the kindness you give
Settling with your patience
And also comfortable with cross lines the ones you never thought they'd cross
I'm going to stick with the chances I give
Not because I don't care,
But because I have respect for myself
Peace is expensive,
And I'm done letting people walk all over me.
